Founded by pianist Xun Pan, violinist Simon Maurer, violist Agnes Maurer, and cellist Ai-Lin Hsieh, the members of the Pennsylvania Piano Quartet are the Artists-in-Residence at the China Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China for the 2018-2019 season. Each musician in this group brings a unique style into the ensemble. As part of their mission to introduce as many new works as possible for this particular combination, Pennsylvania Piano Quartet is committed to premiering and performing commissioned works by living composers. The Quartet just finish a tour of teaching, performing, and making cultural exchange in several cities in China this past summer. They were the Ensemble-in-Residence for 2018-2019 season at the China Conservatory of Music in Beijing, and worked with 15 composition students from the Conservatory with their new compositions written for Pennsylvania Piano Quartet and premiered them.
